Workshop on Managing Process and Powder Handling Hazards - Jun 29, 2018

Introduction :

The equipment and methodologies required to successfully investigate chemical processes for hazards have been available for many years. In spite of this, accidents and incidents continue to occur. There are various hazards posed by static electricity, dust explosions, runaway reactions commonly encountered in chemical & pharmaceutical manufacturing leading to fire and explosions. There needs to be a systematic approach to minimise the risk posed by these hazards by first classifying the products/ reactions through laboratory experiments and applying this data in a formal risk assessment process. To address this issue Bombay Chamber of Commerce & Industry organising workshop on Managing Process and Powder Handling Hazards. The workshop is highly technical and field specific. This workshop broadly elaborates on the systematic approach (yet not predominantly used in India) for thermal hazards evaluation. These hazards can be classified into hazards that occur during the chemical reaction (eg: manufacture of API or intermediates) known as process hazards and those that occur during the preparation of intermediates, API and finished formulations (eg: drying, milling, sieving etc.) known as dust hazards
